Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Pekka, but usually I am called Peke. At Protacon, I work as a technology coordinator. I graduated in electronic engineering from the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences in 2010.

What is Peke’s normal day like?

I participate in many different projects simultaneously, being in this way able to ensure that the same things are not done twice. From the customer’s point of view, the main target is to produce better products faster tomorrow. My objective is to achieve the correct solutions together with the architect team I lead and find the team members’ competences for solving the most difficult questions. My typical working day includes, for example, design meetings, unofficial talks in the corridors related to development of projects and technologies, as well as programming of prototypes. To keep my professional knowledge and skills up to date, I spend at least half of my working time in programming.

How did you arrive at your present job?

After graduating as engineer, I continued studying at the Information Technology Department of the University of Jyväskylä. After six months’ studies, I started at Protacon, first to carry out my traineeship and then remained here. At first, I worked as a member of a software development team for customer-specific solutions until starting in my current role as a technology coordinator at the end of 2016.

How do you recover from work?

During my leisure time, I do much the same things as at work. I like various things related to technology. I feel at ease with machines and I have built a CNC milling machine, for example. To counter-balance technology, I go to the gym, running or cycling. On Mondays, I regularly play floorball with my workmates from Protacon.
