User-friendly automation system for the water supply plant of Vaala
Protacon will renew the automation system of the filtered water and waste water networks for the water supply plant business unit in the municipality of Vaala, Finland. The project includes modernisation and remote control integration of automation systems of seven water intake plants and ten waste water pumping plants. In addition, one water pressure booster plant and two waste water treatment plants will be integrated into a remote control system. Remote control will be implemented using the local radio network and a new type of WEB based regional control unit.
The modernisation consists of replacing the existing system that has reached its end of life. It was difficult to get out information from the old system and spare parts were no longer available for it.
“From the new system, we will get better reports meeting the regulatory requirements, directly to Excel. This will bring us time and cost savings”, says Kalle Kurtti, director of the Vaala water supply plant.
The work will be carried out during the summer and autumn of 2016 ensuring at the same time continuous availability of water supply services to the inhabitants of the municipality. The personnel of the Vaala water supply plant are closely involved in the project right from the outset using the new system already during the implementation stage. This will ensure that the automation system will become an efficient tool supporting the users’ daily operations.
“The new system will clearly improve usability. We will be able to remotely contact the control unit with portable computers or tablets. Until now, problem solving and analysis have only been possible in the office. Now, it is possible to contact the control unit even from home or on site at the water intake plant”, Mr. Kurtti explains.
