“We entered into a system partner contract in 2004, after which our collaboration has further deepened. In January 2015, we invited Protacon to join Siemens’ global Solution Partner programme. Their evidence in demanding full-scope projects fulfilled all of our criteria regarding a joint strategy, targets, technical knowhow and resources. Solution partners are the top experts among our partners and their certification guarantees high-quality deliveries to our end customers.

My first impression of Protacon’s expertise was created in 1993, approximately at the time the company was born, when I made the acquaintance of Timo Akselin while still working for my previous employer, Valmet Paper Machinery. Timo participated in the start-up of an automation system for a paper roll packaging machine and ramps, and we worked side by side almost 24 hours a day for seven weeks. During this project, I got to know him very well both personally and professionally. In my opinion, Timo is a real guru of his area.

Our long-term partner agreement has resulted in high-quality project cooperation, which combines Siemens’ technology and innovation with Protacon’s extensive process knowledge in many areas of application. The pillars of Protacon’s expertise are automation projects for the paper and wood processing industry. They also have several excellent references from power plant turbine control systems, implemented with Siemens’ automation technology. Protacon has never been afraid of stepping into new areas of application. One example of a demanding project here is the modernisation of the generator control system dating from 1970s of the icebreaker Urho with a modern digital technology. At Protacon, they have confidence in their own capabilities.
