“After sales services close by and in Finnish”
“Cooperation with Protacon increased our modernisation projects for turbine control and protection systems by 20–30 percent. We have managed to become better involved in, among others, substantial paper and pulp company projects, as our system supplier can provide after sales services from close by and easily in Finnish. Together, we have developed a viable concept for modernisations. Protacon supplies the control panels and plans for automation, programming and electrification.
We take care of project management, installation and start-up at the customer’s site, as well as design of control and protection systems together with Protacon. Even at this very moment, we are collaborating in a project for which the deal was closed with the customer in January 2015. Planning and other preparations take six months, the installation work starts in June and the start-up is scheduled for August. Our cooperation has been ongoing for approximately 6–7 years, under a frame agreement during the last three years.
We have agreed on general commercial terms and conditions and those related to delivery so that there is no need to review these in connection with each project. The frame agreement has enabled quicker and more cost-efficient project kick-offs. Projects are also progressing effectively, as the contacts from Protacon are often the same people who are involved all the way from the sales phase, up to the final processes. Commonly set targets are clear to both parties throughout the entire project and the work therefore always proceeds flexibly.
Regarding the flexibility of Protacon’s people, I recall a project in Sweden where Protacon’s start-up engineer was to travel to continue the start-up process. When he was already on his way, we received a phone call from the customer informing that the work could not be continued yet. We reached the engineer at the port of Turku where he calmly turned back home feeling content that he had not entered the ferry yet!”
